So What?
I've been reading articles and blogs lately bemoaning the fact that yoga has lost it's way. The definition of 'way', not surprisingly, is often defined from the author's perspective and ideology. There seems to be an undercurrent of of perfectionist nit picking. (Not to be judgmental,{see earlier post ;-) }
I say .........So What!
People are doing yoga at the gym and not staying for savasana! So What.
People spend 300 on a yoga outfit? So What.
Yoginis show up with, gasp, plastic water bottles? So What.
The general public thinks yoga is a form of exercise and that meditation is for relaxation! Well, isn't asana good exercise and meditation relaxing?
Maybe that stereotypical skinny, upper middle class woman in her lulus, carrying her $100 mat and stowing her cell phone at the edge of her mat will, in spite of her intention to simply get a great yoga butt, end up with other intentions. Wouldn't if be great if the guy showing up to class in order to pick up girls ends up on a path to self discovery? What if everyone who stepped out of a yoga class felt a little better about themselves and the people around them? What if people just ended up healthier and more mellow? That's a problem?
Let's not complicate the lovely process that is yoga with too many requirements for purity and a long list complicated requirements that begin to smack of dogma.
